Prepare to fall in love with these special date ideas. This article will help you plan the perfect couples trip, date night, or even romantic getaway.
Watch a concert on the Marina at Rady Shell
The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park is making headlines as one of the best concert venues in the country. It’s the home of the San Diego Symphony. You can see them perform along to classic films like Harry Potter, Star Wars, or even The Grinch and the performances are truly amazing! On nights when the symphony is not performing you might be able to catch one of your favorite artists in concert.
Along with your concert, you can enjoy food from local top chefs delivered right to your table with stunning views of the San Diego skyline on one side and the bay on the other.
There are a lot of seating options at the Rady Shell. We chose the Marina seats so that we could have a table to enjoy our dinner and the best views of the performance. The next section has seats and the back has a large lawn for picnic-style seating.
There are plenty of food vendors on site so there’s something for everyone to enjoy. You can purchase food and drinks from these vendors when you arrive or you can order online a few days before and have it delivered to your table which is what we did.
We had a great time and it’s a beautiful space to enjoy live music and scenic views. You are sure to impress any date with this one!
Watch a comedy show at the iconic comedy store
In the La Jolla neighborhood of San Diego, you will find one of the most iconic comedy clubs in the world, The Comedy Store. As the birthplace of modern stand-up comedy, it has featured comedians like Robin Williams, Jim Carrey and so much more!
This was actually our first comedy show and will not be our last. I was shocked at how much we laughed out loud and how much fun we had. Making your date laugh is a sure way to sweep them off their feet!
There seemed to be plenty of people on dates, but this is also a fun activity for a night out with friends.
Tip: If you are looking for an affordable option, Tuesdays are open mic night and there’s no cover charge
Waterfront festivals
San Diego is known for having perfect weather year-round and because of this, there’s always a cool festival in town. During our weekend visit, there were three different festivals going on and the one that sounded perfect for us was the Taco and Beer Festival. And who doesn’t love tacos?!
Festivals are a great date idea because there are usually lots of things to do and see so you and your sweetie won’t get bored. The coolest part is San Diego has festivals for anyone and everyone to enjoy. Everything from food and drink festivals, music festivals, film festivals, culture festivals, and so much more!
Make sure to plan ahead and buy your tickets ahead of time, since most festivals do not sell tickets at the event. Plus the best festivals sell out early. Stay up-to-date with festivals going on around town with www.sandiego.org. There you can find a full annual calendar and plan events to attend when you visit.
Romantic oceanfront dinner in La Jolla
There isn’t a more romantic dinner spot in San Diego than The Marine Room! This San Diego date idea is iconic and one of the most unique experiences in all of California!
This restaurant has been on our bucket list ever since it caught my eye on Instagram and it still took my breath away! The Marine Room continues to attract guests from all around the world.
From its magical atmosphere, to the crashing waves and stunning ocean views, to the award-winning cuisine this place is an experience like no other.
As the sun sets and the tide rises, you can watch the sky changing colors and the waves crashing into the windows as if you are dining in the middle of the ocean, an unforgettable experience. We recommend making your reservations around sunset time or high tide for the most romantic mood.
The menu changes weekly, but you can’t go wrong with any dish you choose. Every dish was exquisite. This place is the perfect date idea since it embraces all the quintessential San Diego romantic vibes - sunsets, beaches, and amazing food!
But you don’t have to take our word for it. The Marine Room has won over 100+ awards for its view alone, plus over 70+ other awards including Most Romantic, Best Special Occasion, Best Chef, Best View, and Best Service from San Diego Magazine.
Explore Immersive and trendy art museums
San Diego has a vibrant art scene with so many awesome museums to visit. One of its newest ones, the WNDR Museum is not your average museum which makes it the perfect date idea. It’s more than just art. It’s an interactive, immersive, and trendy experience.
This museum blends art and technology and embodies the “everyone is an artist” energy perfectly. Where most museums it is prohibited for you to touch the art, at WNDR Museum you are encouraged to explore, touch, and interact with the exhibits.
You will want to spend hours here so plan accordingly. Take your time going through the museum because there are some hidden gems and surprises you want to be on the lookout for.
If you feel like your sweetie would enjoy a fun and entertaining date over a romantic one, you will love a visit to the WNDR Museum in the Gaslamp Quarter.
It was hard to narrow this list down to just five because San Diego is full of unique and memorable things to do, especially for couples. You really can’t go wrong with whatever you choose.
